"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."
Ephesians 6:12 (NIV)
I am currently going through rough waters and struggling with choices that has to be made and there has been a time limit set on them, but what I didn't realize is that the time limit set for me is not set for God...God does not work on our time and definitely not on our plans.
God has His own plans for us and His plans are good and wonderful, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you' ~Jeremiah 29:11
I have written a view blogs about this topic, but when all these waves came crashing I forgot what I have written and I have forgotten what God's promise was to me.
He will be the Calm in the Storm!
"As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in grate danger. The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Master, Master, we're going to drown!" He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. "Where is your faith?" he asked his disciples."
Luke 8:23-25 (NIV)
"Where is your faith?" What a question to ask, but why should that question even be asked? Our faith shouldn't be questioned, not by us and certainly not by others. We forget that God is with us in every situation, we forget His faithfulness in the storm, no matter how many miracles we just saw. When the storm hits we forget...
One thing I have learned in this path I am on is to get myself reminders. Reminders of God's promises, reminders of his peace. One thing that has all of those reminders, when our mind fails us, is The Bible.
The Word of God has all of those reminders.
One question I had for myself is, "Why do we put the Bible aside when we go through struggles, when it's the one thing to keep us close to God?"
The answer to that question is the same to the one Jesus asked the disciples; it is because we choose to focus on the storm. We need to shift our focus to the boat where Jesus is. In our lives the boat is the Bible, worship music, church, friends and family; everything that brings us closer to God and that shifts our eyes unto Him and Him alone.
We often do things to keep us in the state of the storm, like listen to music that resonates with our emotions, but the thing that God does different is that he doesn't move our emotions but our Spirit. What I mean by that is that he doesn't do things according to how our flesh feels but how our Spirit needs to feel.
It's like if we had to go to the gym according to how we feel that day, then we would never go to the gym, but if we go to the gym because we have to stay healthy, then we are more likely to go.
Dear readers I hope to have touched you in some way with my words today. I hope it helped to know that it's okay to not be okay when you are going through the storm, but to let you know that in order to find peace in the storm, is to keep your eyes on the Lord!
The devil will throw everything he's got at you, but all the waves he sends your way still listens and obeys the will of God. No storm that you encounter is to big for God not to silence. We all have our own things to face in live and currently I am going through a storm myself...
Just knowing that God is with me wherever I go gives me peace and rest to know that I will get through this storm.
"For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless."
Psalms 84:11 (NIV)
Prayer
God, thank You for using me despite my weaknesses. I often find it difficult to be joyful when life brings pain and hardship. Give me eyes to see You at work, even when I am anxious. I want to fully rely on You Lord. Help me to lean into Your strength and not rely on my own understanding, but the Word of God. In Jesus' Mighty Name,
Amen
